Different breeds of dog come
into rescue for several reasons; strays, turned into shelters,
owner surrendered, or several other various reasons. OnPoint Rescue understands that surrendering your Pointer can be
a painful decision. However, if you feel it is a necessary thing
for you to do we can help!!
When contacting us about needing to surrender your Pointer,
please include the following information in your email:
1. Breed/Sex/Age of your dog
2. Is the dog spayed or neutered
3. Is the dog up to date on vaccinations (DHLPP and Rabies)
4. Is the dog currently taking monthly heartworm preventation
and when was the last negative heartworm test
5. Is the dog good with other dogs/cats/kids
6. Does the dog have any known problems (behavioral or medical)
7. Reason you are needing to surrender your Pointer
8. Picture of the dog (head and a full body shot)
9. Your name and location (City/State)
Once we have received all of the above requested information a
volunteer will contact you to further discuss your dog and to
advise if we have an open foster home to take in your Pointer.
Please be advised that we do give priority to Pointers that are
in shelters, since they are in danger of euthanasia. We decide
which dogs we can take on a case by case basis situation.
Additionally, if your Pointer is not spayed/neutered or
up-to-date on vaccinations, we ask that you take care of these
items before the dog is surrendered to our program. However, if
for some reason you cannot take care of those items, we will
request that you make a donation to our program to cover these
expenses.
Upon surrendering your Pointer, you will be required to sign a
surrender agreement, stating that you
have relinquished all rights to the dog and may not re-claim the
dog once turned over into the care of OnPoint Rescue.
Upon contacting OnPoint Rescue, if we do not have any open foster homes, a second option is to
have your dog listed on our Petfinder site as available for
adoption. For a donation of $25.00 to OnPoint Rescue (which can be paid through paypal), we will post
pictures (3) and a bio of your dog on our Petfinder site, along
with your contact information. All of the adoption process is
handled by you. Anyone can call you from viewing the site, so
please do not assume they have been approved by OnPoint Rescue.
If you wish to have your Pointer listed on our Petfinder site, please send an email to us along with pictures
and a bio of your dog. The donation fee of $25.00 is required
prior to the posting of your dog on Petfinder. |
